A few years ago Albert Hagenaars
made a journey to the Baltics. On his way from Šiauliai to Riga, he stopped
at Kryžių Kalnas, in several ways quite a special place in Lithuania. This
visit resulted in a poem, ‘Kruisheuvel’ in Dutch, which was translated into
Lithuanian by Andromeda Grigalevičiūtė. Both versions were published in the
Flemish literary magazine Digther in 2015. Bongers Productions realized a
video, called ‘Kryžių Kalnas’, for which John Irons made an English
translation. The video, consisting of the three versions of the poem, images
of the hill by Siti Wahyuningsih and old newsreels, was published on March
9th, 2016.
Andromeda Grigalevičiūtė herself reads the Lithuanian
text, Alex Conway gave a voice to the English one, while Albert Hagenaars
took care of the original version.
